House of hope

"The children live around us, the adults. They cannot do without us. We cannot do without them. For if there were no children where adults would come from? And it would be a strange world without children. We bring joy and sadness to each other, bore and irritate one another. We do not understand each other and at the same time we are very close. We influence one another all the time; this might be what is called upbringing."
I. Fridmann "I see myself as if in the mirror"

Teachers working with the children are very special people. They have a special responsibility, and often they have power to heal or to hurt the tender child soul and mind. In the family of my friends there was no tradition to celebrate the birthdays of its members, and the children remained indifferent to this event for their entire lives. Some may say that's not a big deal. Still each adult knows that our life is made of routine and holidays are very rare. And it can be that the holidays are truly joyful and light only back in the childhood. Could it be, dear adults, that we should try to give our children the most of these holidays?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, dear brothers and sisters!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, dear brothers and sisters!
There are so many things we can sincerely thank God for! We have things to thank Him for in spite of the global economical crisis and the fact that more and more ministries in Ukraine are struggling with finding financial support (and our House of Hope Fund is not an exception here). Here are only some of the figures that help us see that God is truly guiding us with His hand, even though He sends us great trials to test our faithfulness to His calling.
In 2008 God let us to:
1. work daily with 40-70 children that need our care and supervision.
2. arrange multiple Christian actions for over 500 children in Kherson and other cities.
3. plant 4 new churches in Ukraine through our ministry; one of them being another one in Kherson.
4. visit 6 orphanages in the region daily and help the children there grow spiritually and hear the Gospel (there are over 2000 children in these orphanages at the moment).
5. help 591 poor families where there live over 2000 children. Our work included efforts to help the families legally defend their rights for their flats and homes against swindlers.
6. conduct 6 sport events for mentally challenged children and children with Down syndrome. There were over 200 children participating, and some of them became champions of Ukraine in their group!
7. see the street children attending our drama studio (about 30 children) give evangelizing concerts in many cities of Ukraine, and some of the children were able to continue their training in drama vocational schools.
8. our branches in Zaporozhie, Poltava, and the Crimea are working with over 2000 children, and this proves that our Fund is truly becoming a national one!
I can be listing the things God let us do for a very long time! It was not for nothing that we were chosen as the Ukrainian best regional NGO of 2008 and we received the prize! And the first lady of Ukraine — Kateryna Yuschenko is implementing two nation-wide projects with us. All of this witnesses that many known people and organizations acknowledge us. And this is given that we are not silent about our Christian values that we preach everywhere.
This is our common achievement! The achievement of those who keep us in unceasing prayers even though these people might not know us in person. It is the achievement of those who came to visit us in Kherson and helped us in everything. It is

I want to once again tell you
Dear friends!

I want to once again tell you how much we appreciate your help and invite you to join us in our medical project in Kherson and the region.

Our city and our region are among the poorest in Ukraine (there are 25 regions in Ukraine - similar to states in the USA) and thus the medical eqiupment is very old and in many cases cannot detect many
diseases, especially in the poorer patients (who cannot afford doublechecking the results with another clinic) - and these are precisely the people that we are working with and who we help. There are three most frequent and most serious problems: tuberculosis, cancer, and diabetes. We have held some projects to help the patients ith tuberculosis and cancer, and have made certain progress, especially in efforts to control tuberculosis. Now it is the time to help diabetes patients.

The major problem is that there is no medical insurance system in Ukraine as such and the people have not developed a habit of visiting hospitals to make tests and examinations. One of the reasons for this
would be poverty. Thus generally the people learn about the diseases they have only when those are in an incurable state and nothing can be done to help.

There are many people in our city and in the region who suffer from diabetes. These are the children and poor people who are not able to have examinations regularly. It is heartbreaking to see reports of
severaldeaths of children and adults, who died because they did not know they had diabetes. There was a case when a group of young guys and girls went camping into the mountains in the Crimea and died
there, as they never knew they had diabetes and that the food they cooked and took in extreme conditions was dangerous for them.

That is why in November our Fund has decided to hold a month-long project to help control diabetes. We will publish many leaflets and booklets, visit all schools in the city, have information meetings
with the children and their parents and rpovide information to the people. We can do it.However our dream is also to give glucose tests to as many people as possible. The problem is that the test strips and
the glucose meters (glucometers) are inaffordably expensivein Ukraine and we simply have no money to purchase them. And we ask your help!

It can be that some of you work at hospitals, or can buy some test strips and glucometers, or can

Dear friends!!!
Dear friends!!!
Another year of the ministry in Kherson that we share with you is coming to its end. This year turned to be blessed in a very special way, and at the same time to have a very difficult ending. I can hardly describe all the joys God gave us through this ministry. And it is even harder to describe all the blessings that children received through you and us. There were many children who were helped with food and thus could live. There were children for whom continuation of studying became a reality. Hundreds of children were placed into orphanages of our region, and now our team visits them regularly and helps them grow spiritually. All of these things were done by our joint team. Your prayers, visits of teams, and financial donations have made this possible. And we take joy and are pleased with what has happened and is happening in our ministry.
Last week we had an outstanding project with the orphanages of the region. There is a Foundation in Ukraine and its Head is our First Lady — Ekaterina Yuschenko. Her foundation decided to find partners in the regions. And in our region (similar to a US state) they chose our Fund — House of Hope.
The goal of the project was to help the orphanages with new books for the libraries. Those were modern Ukrainian books, Christian books and textbooks and study guides. Our team that works in the orphanages monitored the libraries and we were shocked with the results. The last time when all of our orphanages received new books was back in 1992! 16 years have passed, so many things changed in the world — and our children are robbed of the opportunity of merely keeping in touch with the real world! Many things that children should have were taken from them, most important surely being parental love and care - and now they cannot receive adequate education and attention; many had no access even to fairy-tales! They cannot be formed and grow spiritually and learn to live in the world around them.
Our first task was to survey what kind of books the children do read, and what are the things they are most interested in and why. And we received many surprising answers. Believe it or not, but practically all the children said they wanted to read more about the Lord’s Mother and Jesus! We were glad to know this because it proved that personal development was a priority for the children. Next in the list the children put fairy-tales, preferably from different cultures so that th
